Katrien Beeckman
Biography
In 2002, Katrien started working as a midwife in the maternity ward and delivery room in Asse. In 2004, she combined this job part-time with research into long-term postnatal complaints at Kind en Gezin, in collaboration with the Artevelde University of Applied Sciences. In 2005, Katrien began working as a PWO research staff member on a study into experiences with perinatal care among underprivileged mothers in Ghent (Artevelde University of Applied Sciences).
In March 2005, Katrien left her clinical practice in Asse to take up a teaching position within the Bachelor of Midwifery program (Artevelde University of Applied Sciences) and to start as an assistant in the Master’s program in Health Care Management and Policy at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). From 2006 until May 2011, Katrien worked full-time on her PhD on the determinants of prenatal care trajectories in Brussels (VUB).
Since August 2011, she has been appointed to the Nursing and Midwifery Research unit at UZ Brussels, with the aim of developing research for nurses and midwives. In addition, Katrien works a small percentage as a lecturer in the Midwifery program at the Erasmus University College Brussels.
